24-hour High

Late Friday/Saturday provided me with enough adrenaline to last a while!  (No drugs involved!)

For Friday night, I managed to score tickets to a restaurant "soft" opening!  The restaurant was doing a "training" dinner a few days before they officially open - which meant food was free!  It's a fact that I ADORE free stuff almost as much as I love food, so to me - this was really cool!  Not only did we get complimentary bruchetta and pizza, we also got to try their Tiramisu!  I recommend Brixx pizza - - it's a "fancy" pizza place, where they have the usuals - Seth got a meat filled "Bronx Bomber" - as well as some unusuals - my favorite is the Pear Gorgonzola on whole wheat crust!  They had "dough" balls for the kids to play with (and I think we were the first to use the new crayons!), fresh lemonade, and even root beer on tap!  We left stuffed- and came home with leftovers!

Next up, a "running" event.  This was not the typical running event - - it was a family-friendly "obstacle" course.  This is the first "fun" race (not just running) that our whole family was able to participate in and complete (only 2.5 miles) - and it was FANTASTIC!!!

The kids got to jump in a bouncy house before the race, and spin a wheel for a "prize" where they got a free water bottle!

At the start line to the race, we had to participate in the race "mantra" - "Who's in charge?" "KIDS!"  Then we ran through the "front door" of the house.

I took the mantra to heart, and really let the kids lead us!  What did that mean?  Wow, is the boy fast!!!  He took off at a dead sprint at the start of the race, and promptly face-planted.  I couldn't keep up, so I sent Dad to chase after him.  The little one and I stayed together, and I heard my son crying as we approached/caught up.  Poor kid was already wanting to go home, and we hadn't done the first "Obstacle"!

Speaking of Obstacles... They were a LOT of fun!  The theme of the race was "everything you can't do at home"... and they had things set up so you COULD do them as part of this event!  Here's a list of the obstacles (not in order):

1) "RUN" through the house! - - several tables set up that you had to "navigate" through in a corridor.
2) Jump/crawl over piles of laundry! (big round obstacles with laundry pictures printed on them)
3) Play on the stairs - - carry a tennis ball balanced between two PVC pipes.  We (me and a 3 year old!) even managed to not drop the ball as we climbed over the stairs!
4) Throw dishes in the dishwasher
5) Climb through the doggy door
6) paint the walls (or each other!)
7) throw water in the house
8) spill water all over the floor
9) jump on the furniture - a big green couch that we went over again and again and again (4 times total) because it was so much fun!
10) throw balls at the light fixtures!
11)throw food (flour, spaghetti) in the house
12) "overflow" the bath tub (FOAM!  Bubbles taller than my little one!)
13) PILLOW FIGHT!
14) Wake the baby! (Bells set up in a spider web - the goal was to make noise!)
.. and possibly a couple of others that I've forgotten.  And don't worry, "Wordless Wednesday" will have some pictures so you can see for yourself!

Regardless, I sent an email to the race people thanking them for allowing us to do something as a family that was totally AWESOME - and right up my alley!

We even got medals for finishing!

Following that event and feeding the family lunch, I set out on foot (in the rain!!!) for one of my favorite events of the year:

Not only do I always score some AMAZING finds (like really cool decorated "pull" cords for my office badge and magnets for teacher/coworker presents), I also get to do/get some cool things for FREE - like decorated spoons (colored clay on the handle), two trees to plant in the yard, and a bandana!  Although this year they opted to close early because of the light - but unrelenting - rain, I had SO MUCH FUN!  I was dressed well for a warm rain, and wound up doing a ton of walking.  Many people commented that I looked like I had an antenna because of the way I was toting the trees around... I'll let you decide:

After a day like this... I must say.... I LOVE my life and my family.  My kids that are always up for doing "something fun".  My husband who is willing to let me "sneak out" to do something on my own on occasion (and also takes care of those adorable kids so that I can travel for work.  Last minute.  Next week.)
