Lots of thoughts...

It seems I've had lots of bloggable thoughts lately, but nothing that I've actually been sitting in front of my computer (or really motivated to blog about.)

I had a good mom/bad mom Friday, when the girl child was sent home from school sick.  I took the "unexpected" opportunity to go (with her) to the Southern Women's Show.  She wasn't that bad.  And I probably wouldn't have gone, except DH ... who is typically more conservative on these types of things than me... said it would probably be okay!

I also signed up... after much consideration... for the walking program through work.  It's  a relief- in some ways - to be motivated to be doing something.  But summer isn't the best/easiest time to get in 10,000 steps a day... Although after going to one of my favorite spring events (an arts and crafts festival in the park that is nearby- so I can walk!)... I have about 17,000 steps in for today.  And I am exhausted.  And I am still blogging.

So there has been much going on.  Not much out of the ordinary, but much all the same.

Actuarial exams are next week (and the job "actuary" was rated number one again, recently... Awesome.)

It's the weekend.  Enjoy it!

Dating... the "other" type...

I read a post today that triggered thoughts on dating.

The post I read (and somehow can't find to credit) was related to "Dating for Moms".  I thought it had some clever ideas for how it described the "base" system:
1st base:  An "organized" family activity (for example, a family event at daycare)
2nd base: An "organized" activity, but outside of the "normal" - such as one you schedule
3rd base: Hanging out at the other person's house for a playdate
4th base: Hanging out with the moms and no kids!

I'm sure I've taken several liberties with this list...

And I think as an adult, it's hard to "date"- or find friends.  Of course, for me, it has always been hard.  I've had countless parties where I invited many, only to have a small handful show up.

And to get all the dynamics just right (same socio-economic situation - for example - so when you want to or are able to suggest a "splurge" on something, you don't feel like you will make it a hardship on someone else..) and same or similar interests... there are just so many dimensions and dynamics when people are involved, that friendships are (or at least- can be) hard.  Blech.

Since moving to North Carolina, though, I am feeling a bit more in-tune.  I don't have a solid group of "running" friends, like I did in Texas, but I do know a couple of people I can call if I want or need to go on a bike ride.  I found (created, really- with the help of several friends) a book club that rocks- and meets at one of the most stellar coffee shops in the city as an added bonus.  And there are even a few of kiddo's friends mom's that I've gotten to know.

So slowly, I am learning the ropes in the area.  Which is a good thing - - because it makes me a much happier person!

Up on the agenda soon?  Swimming lessons for the kiddos!

Shoes

When it comes to my own shoes, I have a few staples that I wear, and that's about it.  Mostly mules or slides for me, and mostly for work.  Heels are limited.

When it comes to the kids, though - I guess I am a huge shoe buyer.

Kalamazoo (or "Kiddo") has about 8 pairs currently, ranging in 3 different sizes.  White, black, brown.  Crocs and tennis shoes.  Characters and plain.  He even has a pair of rain boots!

The girl (who I've not yet come up with a nickname for as cool as Kalamazoo... I still have time, I suppose - since she can't talk anyway.  Although she can walk.  But I digress...) ... The Girl has several pairs of shoes, also.  It's tough to find shoes in her size, though!  It seems she has small feet.  Perhaps she is destined to be petite like her mama.  Well, at least short.  I used to be more petite before babies!

But yeah... I think the only one in the family that doesn't have at least 5 more pairs of shoes than really needed is DH.  And that's only because I wouldn't dare buy shoes for him.  (Because unlike underwear, socks, shirts and pants.... shoes are something that have to fit correctly.  And to be perfectly honest.... I'm not sure I even know his shoe size, even though I know that I have asked more than once!)

Ahh, Spring!

Spring:  The perfect time of year to spend time outside with family!

Bike rides, picnics, or just a nice walk... It is fun to explore!
